Senator Lucía Guzmán is a lifelong leader and public servant. Born in Texas to farm workers from Mexico, she has a passion for the human rights of all people and has made a profession out of ensuring fairness and justice for people from all walks of life. Guzmán studied theology and became an ordained minister, served for many years on the Denver School Board, and served as a Colorado State Senator from 2010 through 2019. From her election to the Senate in November 2010 until her retirement in 2019, she served as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and has served on the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Energy Committee.
