Ranchlands Collective Summit

A Gathering for Conservation and Community

RSVP

Paintrock Canyon Ranch

August 12 - 15, 2025

The Ranchlands Collective Summit is a unique convergence of Collective members, partners, artists, ranchers, and community members dedicated to the stewardship of our natural landscapes. It’s for those who understand that real connection to place—built through time, effort, and attention—leads naturally to a sense of responsibility.

This is not about romanticizing the West. It's about understanding it. The work it takes to keep a ranch running. The decisions behind managing grasslands and herds. The tension between use and preservation. And the value of building relationships—not just with each other, but with the places we live and depend on. We believe the people best equipped to protect wild places are the ones who’ve spent time in them—who’ve fixed fences, watched weather, listened closely. This Summit is designed to deepen that kind of engagement.

You come to know a place by being in it. You come to care for it by knowing it.

The Program

Mornings might begin with coffee by the fire or a walk to the bird banding station at dawn, where migration meets science in real time. Days are filled with choices: join a grazing panel with apprentices, take part in hands-on workshops exploring water systems or creative approaches to land stewardship, or head out on horseback to explore the landscape alongside our crew. Hike quiet trails, cast a line in the river, or simply relax with a book and take in the wide-open views. There’s space to talk—around tables, on walks, in circles designed for deep conversation and collaborative dreaming. We’ll come together to imagine the future of ranching and conservation, exchanging ideas, building partnerships, and shaping what’s next for The Collective. In the evenings, we gather for long-table meals, music, and celebration beneath the stars.

A Sense of The Week

Hosted by The Collective—Ranchlands' nonprofit arm—this week is designed to foster education, collaboration, and connection around land, culture, and conservation. All proceeds from the event directly support The Collective’s programs, helping to build a more sustainable and inclusive future for working landscapes.

Expect immersive workshops, riding and hiking, campfire conversations, good food, and big ideas about the future of land stewardship. This event is open only to Collective members.

Paintrock Canyon Ranch

The Paintrock Canyon Ranch sprawls across northern Wyoming, made up of rolling meadows and streams carving through high alpine valleys. The ranch’s landscape is characterized by the Paintrock Canyon, which starts at the ranch headquarters and meanders for 8 miles, opening into the Paintrock basin at foot of Cloud Peak, the highest peak in the Bighorn range. The Canyon itself is shaped by steep limestone slopes that climb thousands of feet high above the trail. Red sandstone cliffs, whose color transforms from deep orange to burgundy red with the changing light, rise above the meadows surrounding the ranch’s headquarters. At the bottom of the canyon is Paintrock Creek, widely known to be one of the best fisheries in the region for rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout. Wildlife is plenty– bobcat, elk, mule and whitetail deer, pronghorn and bears all roam freely.
