Explore the Paintrock Canyon Ranch

Hyattville, Wyoming

BOOK YOUR STAY

The Paintrock Canyon Ranch sprawls across northern Wyoming, made up of rolling meadows and streams carving through high alpine valleys.

About the Ranch

The Paintrock Canyon Ranch headquarters is located at the western base of the Bighorn Mountains. The ranch’s 80,000 acre range extends toward Cloud Peak, the highest mountain in the Bighorns, and is characterized by creeks, springs, meadows, and canyon walls reaching thousands of feet above. The terrain changes from deep orange and burgundy sandstone hills to monolithic rock formations to high mountain meadows, pine forests, and lakes. The ranch’s namesake, the Paintrock Canyon starts at the ranch headquarters and meanders for eight miles. At the bottom of the canyon is Paintrock Creek, widely known to be one of the best trout fisheries in the region. Wildlife is aplenty– bobcat, elk, mule and whitetail deer, pronghorn and bears all roam freely.

Ways to Visit

Ranch Vacations

Enjoy five nights on the ranch and four days of riding amongst the varying ecosystems the Paintrock Canyon Ranch has to offer. Take a long canter to the top of Lumen Canyon or ride through the cattle herd to learn about planned grazing and ranch management. Take an afternoon to visit the nearby Medicine Lodge Archaeological Site to see the 2,000 year old Native American petroglyphs or fly fish in one of the many fishing holes near camp. Enjoy locally sourced, chef-prepared meals alongside the bubbling Paintrock Creek. All riding levels are welcome.

I just got back from Paintrock and, honestly, it’s my favorite Ranchlands location. I will love Zapata forever but there is something so special about Paintrock.

Marcella W.

Paintrock Canyon Ranch is for certain one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been to. The Ranchlands team is truly made up of the best people and they choose the best land and the best horses… nothing compares!

There was no part of my stay I didn't enjoy. The entire experience brought peace and adventure.
