Paintrock Canyon Ranch, Wyoming
May 18 - 23, 2025
Join us for a five night stay exploring the vast and varying landscapes of the Paintrock Canyon Ranch on horseback.
Paintrock Canyon Ranch
The Paintrock Canyon Ranch sprawls across northern Wyoming, made up of rolling meadows and streams carving through high alpine valleys. The ranch’s landscape is characterized by the Paintrock Canyon, which starts at the ranch headquarters and meanders for 8 miles, opening into the Paintrock basin at foot of Cloud Peak, the highest peak in the Bighorn range. The Canyon itself is shaped by steep limestone slopes that climb thousands of feet high above the trail. Red sandstone cliffs, whose color transforms from deep orange to burgundy red with the changing light, rise above the meadows surrounding the ranch’s headquarters. At the bottom of the canyon is Paintrock Creek, widely known to be one of the best fisheries in the region for rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout. Wildlife is plenty – bobcat, elk, mule and whitetail deer, pronghorn and bears all roam freely.
The Program
Guests will spend five nights in a basecamp next to Paintrock Creek, fully immersed in nature and the ranch. Each day will bring new adventure on horseback, riding beneath the red hills and learning about the geological and human history of the area. Practice your horsemanship with your personal wrangler as you lope through the meadows of Lumen Canyon or ride through the Beefmaster herd to learn about how Ranchlands manages our large-scale cattle ranches. In the afternoon try your hand at leatherworking or fly fishing, or just grab a book to relax or take a cold plunge in the creek. Enjoy dinner before gathering around the campfire to tell stories from the day and watch the stars come out.
Accommodations
Guests will stay in fully furnished, safari-style canvas tents. The accommodations at Paintrock Canyon Ranch are meant to bring you as close to nature with all of the amenities of home, including a warm shower and comfortable mattress. All tents are private.
Food
All meals will be creatively prepared by a private chef in an open fire “kitchen,” featuring Ranchlands beef and local ingredients whenever possible. Meals at the ranch are seated, but casual and friendly and accompanied by wine and beer. Lunch is packed in your saddlebag each day and enjoyed in the field. We are happy to accommodate all dietary preferences with advance notice.
