Zapata Ranch
July 30 – August 6, 2023
An in-depth horsemanship experience with renowned clinicians, Curt and Mesa Pate. Beginners welcome!
The Program
For decades, Curt has led demonstrations and clinics on colt starting, ranch horsemanship and stockmanship around the world with an emphasis on low-stress handling. He is the co-author of the book Ranch Horsemanship, which covers methods to develop a safer mount who's a pleasure to ride anywhere. His approach embodies preventive horsemanship that helps riders prepare themselves and their horses, step-by-step, for whatever they might encounter in the round pen, arena, pasture and beyond.
Curt’s daughter Mesa co-produces Art of the Cowgirl’s All Women’s Ranch Rodeo and Elite Ranch Horse Sale. She has been riding a horse since before she could walk and started training bucking bulls in her early 20s. She credits her success with bulls to her childhood working cattle on horseback and today considers herself a trainer first and foremost, traveling the country to lead clinics, demos, and train horses.
Workshop days are spent with one-on-one horsemanship instruction, educational demonstrations, and using the landscape as your arena. Spend the evenings around the dinner table discussing the day’s experiences

Zapata Ranch
Set back in a shady cotton woodgrove beneath the majestic 14,000-foot peaks of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains lies the historic Zapata Ranch headquarters and lodge, which was established in the late 1800’s. Elk, mule deer, migratory birds, eagles, and black bear also call this area home. The rooms are beautifully furnished and have an elegant southwestern decor that gives them the feel of home. All rooms have individual tiled bathrooms and views that are private, peaceful, and beautiful in any season.
