yearly goodbye
By Katherine Mariani
and now the cranes have gone on
but their wings stretch here still,
in this heart
now the cranes have gone on
but on early mornings I see life through eyes as theirs, moated with ruby
casting all things in a wild and honest sight
the cranes have gone on
but I will keep my journeys in this place
along the riverland of the everyday
as the cranes they go on
making their myth of the sky
turning the whole world to light
