Paintrock Canyon Ranch, Wyoming
July 30 - August 6, 2025
Join us for a seven night stay of riding, hiking and fishing the high alpine valleys of the Bighorn Mountains.
Paintrock Canyon Ranch
The Paintrock Canyon Ranch sprawls across northern Wyoming, made up of rolling meadows and streams carving through high alpine valleys. The ranch’s landscape is characterized by the Paintrock Canyon, which starts at the ranch headquarters and meanders for 8 miles, opening into the Paintrock basin at foot of Cloud Peak, the highest peak in the Bighorn range. The Canyon itself is shaped by steep limestone slopes that climb thousands of feet high above the trail. Red sandstone cliffs, whose color transforms from deep orange to burgundy red with the changing light, rise above the meadows surrounding the ranch’s headquarters. At the bottom of the canyon is Paintrock Creek, widely known to be one of the best fisheries in the region for rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout. Wildlife is plenty– bobcat, elk, mule and whitetail deer, pronghorn and bears all roam freely.
The Program
Guests will spend the first evening at the ranch sharing a meal with the ranch team to get to know each other before heading into the mountains. Day two will begin early to start the trip up the canyon, making their way to base camp at the foot of Cloud Peak. Nights two through six will be spent here in the Bighorn basin. The camp will be complete with the comforts of a warm shower and meals prepared by a private chef, and set amongst the wild Bighorns alongside the Paintrock Creek. Days will be spent visiting surrounding lakes to fish, hiking miles of trails, and riding out to the Ranchlands cow camp to spend the day with the ranch team. Evenings will be spent around the fire with friends under the stars. The trip will end by packing back down the Canyon to cap the week with a farewell dinner and one last night sharing stories and experiences from the wild.
Accommodations
Nights will be spent tent camping at base camp, with the exception of the first and last night. Base camp will be complete with the comforts of a warm shower, tents, and an open fire “kitchen” where meals will be prepared by a private chef. On the first and last nights of the trip, guests will stay in guest housing at the ranch. Each guest will have their own tent while camping and may have a roommate for the first and last nights at the ranch. Tents will be provided, but please refer to the packing list for a complete list of what to bring.
Food
All meals will be creatively prepared by a private chef, featuring Ranchlands beef. Meals at the ranch will be seated, but casual and friendly and accompanied by cocktails, wine and beer. Meals at basecamp and on the trail will be prepared and shared over open fire. We are happy to accommodate all dietary preferences with advance notice.
Location
The ranch, located near Hyattville, is 1 1/2 hours from Cody, Wyoming, and 3 hours from Billings, Montana. Both cities have airports with multiple daily flights from major airports. Roundtrip shuttles from the Cody airport to the ranch can be booked via Explore Cody Transportation.
